Travel to a centuries-old estate, a house of worship, a grand hotel lobby, and you will likely not find an inch left untouched. In those interiors, decorative art was treated as essential, even sacred, celebrated for its unmatched capacity to communicate the story of those inhabiting the space to those passing through.

Somewhere along the way, contemporary residential and commercial design has largely left much of that behind, too often treating hand-crafted surfaces as an unnecessary indulgence. These diaries are our case for bringing the decorative arts back while honouring the statements they make, the times they define, and the histories they preserve.

At the heartbeat of Londubh Studio is a devotion to the decorative arts: a painted stairwell that becomes a narrative journey, a gilded ceiling that changes how morning light moves through a space, decorative plaster that gives a hallway new shadow and depth, an installation that stops people mid-step in a doorway. We see walls, floors, and architectural details as canvases, each one an opportunity for intentional, artful, meaning-rich beauty, made to outlast trend, if not the century.

Our vision doesn't stop there. We bring the same exacting eye for colour and craft to custom wallcoverings, textiles, and a growing collection of candles: all designed to seed peace and joy.

We don't design spaces or worlds. We create the living works of art that help shape them. We collaborate closely and listen deeply, serving as a resource for interior designers, architects, builders, art advisors, and production designers who share our appetite for the unexpected.

In these diaries, part of our new website, we'll talk about what drives and inspires us, what challenges us to grow, and what opens our hearts. We'll share how we think about colour, pattern, material, and symbolism, and offer glimpses of our process: the sparks of joy, the long nights, the philosophical tangents, and the deep dives we take in search of the right technique for each project.

Decorative art has spent too long standing beneath fine art in the cultural hierarchy, treated as ornament rather than authorship, welcome in a palazzo but questioned in a gallery or museum and not revered as an 'investment' in the way fine art can be. We don't see it that way, and we'd argue that a reflection back in time proves our point. Adornment is one of the oldest human impulses: it defines an era, carries its story, and marks a civilisation as clearly as any visual record, yet too often it's celebrated only in the history wing of a museum, filed as artefact rather than art.

We believe it's time for a renaissance: a return to hand-craft, to surfaces with something to say, and to a renewed respect for what this skilful expression brings to the resonance, beauty, and value of spaces.

Absolute luxury can be absolutely generic. Not on our watch. Whether playful, reverent, or wildly expressive, the finest decorative art always carries an undercurrent of meaning. For us, every project is a chance to translate energy into form, and to create a sense of wonder that lifts everyone who enters.
