Awe | Londubh Studio’s Immersive Installations

In my quest to understand scientifically and philosophically what causes people to have such a visceral reaction to pattern and color – not only in vast cathedrals and historical wonders, but also in the immersive installations we create – I have spent some time considering awe.

That search led me to Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life by Dacher Keltner. It reminds me that awe isn’t just about inspiration, it’s about unity. In moments of awe, differences soften, and what remains is the recognition that we are all part of something greater than ourselves.

When I came out of the closet, the deepest lesson came from those I least expected. It was often people from conservative or religious backgrounds, those who could easily have turned away, who instead stood on the principle of oneness: we are all one, all children of the divine, and therefore I accept you as you are. For me, that was awe revealed as moral beauty, the courage to transcend division and honor our shared humanity.

This past January, as 2025 unfolded in a torrent of wildfires and uncertainty, out of the dizzying helplessness came a profound call to purpose. I’ve spent much of this year wrestling with my admittedly signature impatience to know what it all means, but I do know this: I am profoundly lucky to create with my wife as Londubh Studio.

Together, we are devoted to designing transformative spaces that open the door to awe. Creatively, we cherish nothing more than shaping awe-inspiring installations that invite people to pause, to feel, to connect. The projects that move us most are the ones where we leave clients and passersby humbled, uplifted, and a little more tender toward themselves and one another.

We relish hearing from people how our colors, our patterns, our intricacies make them feel. The truth is, every time we finish an installation and experience it in scale, we are also amazed at how it makes us feel. Just like for our clients, when we’ve had the opportunity to create truly from our hearts, something shifts. The work becomes more than design. It becomes a shared experience, a reminder of what’s possible when we gather around wonder and make room for time to be still, space to savor the stillness, and a chance to connect with our hearts and with one another.

This is our purpose: to create art and spaces where people from all walks of life can stand together and find the sacred in what we hold in common.

If you feel called to bring this kind of experience into your project or your world – to create transformative spaces where awe takes hold, where strangers meet as equals, where beauty becomes a bridge – please reach out. Londubh exists to build awe-inspiring installations that remind us who we are, what we share, and how powerful it is to stand together.
